Abuse of a Disabled Adult or Senior Suspected? Docs Must Report

In Illinois, physicians are among the professions mandated by statute to report suspected cases of elder abuse as well as abuse of individuals between the ages of 18 and 59 who are disabled and living in the community. This is an expansion of the Elder Abuse and Neglect Act.

It is important to have a basic understanding of what's expected of you if you suspect abuse.

The Illinois Department on Aging developed guidelines for health care professionals to help you better understand your critical role in protecting these fragile populations by recognizing and reporting abuse of disabled adults and seniors.
