    According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 3.2 million Americans and 170 million people worldwide are living with the Hepatitis C virus (HCV).

    Here in the Prairie State, the American Liver Foundation estimates that some 157,000 Illinois residents have Hepatitis C, and roughly 75 percent of them are unaware that they do.

    1-2 Punch: Dollars and Legislation Aim to Improve Prescription Drug Monitoring in Illinois

    Last month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) awarded Illinois a $3.6 million grant to improve the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP). This funding, coupled with improvements authorized under recently enacted legislation to address the heroin/opioid abuse epidemic, will significantly boost the capabilities of the PMP to tackle drug abuse in Illinois.
