Hardship Exception Deadline is October 1 for First-Time Participants in Medicare’s MU Program
Posted on: 8/30/2017

Need some one-on-one help figuring out the MIPS/Meaningful Use connection and what you need to do? Don’t worry, we have your back. You may contact the ISMS advocacy team for personal assistance at 800-782-4767 ext. 1470, or by email.

Physicians who are eligible to participate in Medicare's Meaningful Use (MU) program in 2017 but have never attested before are on track to receive a negative payment adjustment in 2018.

To ease the burden on these physicians and to avoid a financial penalty, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) developed a one-time hardship exception for 2017 first-time reporters who plan to participate in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) program.

Access the hardship exception application, along with instructions.

Send in the application by October 1 via email or fax to 814-456-7132. Multiple physicians from one practice may be included on the same application.

For more information, visit CMS's web page, Payment Adjustments & Hardship Information.
