Flu Rampant in Illinois – Not Too Late to Offer the Shot!
Posted on: 1/3/2018

Do your patients hesitate about getting the flu shot for this reason?

"One of the biggest myths about getting a flu shot is that is that it gives you the flu. I’m here to say it has been scientifically proven that the flu vaccine does not give you the flu."

Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Director Nirav D. Shah, MD, JD

The flu is widespread in 36 states – and Illinois is one of them, racking up 7,249 positive lab tests so far this season. But the real number is much greater than the lab test figures since many citizens with symptoms do not go to a hospital or see a physician to get tested.

The flu season generally lasts through May, with the peak usually coming in January or February, so it’s not too late to give your patients an influenza vaccination.
