Learn How to Establish a Buprenorphine Practice
Posted on: 2/1/2018

Did you miss our latest webinar on a key tool for helping patients struggling with opioid addiction? You can still view the presentation – and earn CME – through ISMS' newly redesigned education center!

Medication assisted treatment (MAT) has emerged as the best available option for treating opioid use disorder; however, some patients may have trouble accessing this care.

Fortunately, buprenorphine – one of the drugs that can be used for MAT – can be administered to patients in a medical office setting, as opposed to a clinic certified by the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). But in order to prescribe buprenorphine in an office setting, a physician must first complete eight hours of required training to obtain a waiver of certain controlled substance regulations.

Learn more by viewing ISMS' FREE program, Establishing a Buprenorphine Practice: What You Need to Know.

The presentation will cover how to:

  • Obtain a waiver.
  • Screen and/or refer patients for buprenorphine treatment.
  • Set up and manage relationships with other health professionals in their communities.
  • Prepare a buprenorphine treatment team.
