Take a Look at a 100-Year-Old Fee Schedule!
This just in from the Champaign County Historical Archives – a
fee schedule printed by the county circa 1918.
A doctor visit back then cost $2 or $3, and a telephone consultation was just a buck. Physicians had winter and summer hours! Extra charge for night visits.
A vaccination for typhoid – each injection $1.
Operation for necrosis and osteomyelitis could run up to $300 for a patient back in the day.
Of course, prices aren't the only thing that’s changed in medicine over the last century, and there are many reasons to prefer being alive now … even if $2 doctor visits are a thing of the past.
In 2012, the Champaign County Medical Society donated various fee schedules and other medical society historical records to the county archives.
