Free Clinics Must Post a Notice That They Are Immune from Liability
Posted on: 7/30/2018

The Illinois Good Samaritan Act requires that free medical clinics post in a visible place a notice regarding their immunity from civil liability.

ISMS offers this resource for members, Free Medical Clinic Notice,* which states that the facility is a free clinic and the Illinois Good Samaritan Act applies. This resource is formatted to be printed and posted at eligible clinics.

This Act stipulates that when a health care professional provides care or services without charge to a patient in a free medical clinic, the health care professional is immune from civil liability. In other words, a doctor cannot be sued or found responsible if something goes wrong while providing medical treatment, unless there is willful or wanton misconduct.
