Gov. Rauner Signs ISMS Health Care Liens Initiative!
Posted on: 8/1/2018

We are pleased to report that earlier this week Governor Rauner signed House Bill 4911 into law. This is an ISMS-backed change to Illinois' Health Care Services Lien Act. Our update codifies that ambulatory surgical treatment facilities (ASTFs) can now file liens.

Under current law, only health care professionals and licensed medical institutions (hospitals, home health agencies, and ambulatory surgical treatment centers [ASTCs]) are able to file liens. ASTFs are typically physician-owned facilities that do not qualify for state licensure because of their size, but are nationally accredited.

Through ISMS Advocacy, ASTFs now stand with equal footing when seeking reimbursement for medical care provided to victims of accidents.

Many items of business from the spring session of the General Assembly remain unsigned. Count on ISMS to keep you informed on bill actions through the Physician Advocate newsletter and the Legislative Action Hub web portal.
