Backlog of Workers’ Comp Medical Bills STILL Significantly Delayed to Doctors, Hospitals
Posted on: 8/16/2018

ISMS has again communicated to Gov. Rauner the urgent need to sign Senate Bill 904 into law.

Our message reinforces that this law is critically needed by Illinois physicians, each of whom supports an average of 17 jobs in our state. This legislation will help ensure that the state's workers' compensation system functions so that injured workers can be returned swiftly to their jobs.

Workers' comp medical bills often remain unpaid for years at a time. Currently, there is no avenue available for doctors to collect interest for late payments, and no penalty for not paying in a timely fashion.

A recent decision by the Illinois Appellate Court highlighted how certain aspects of the 2005 workers' compensation law regarding late payments still cannot be enforced. Even the court is aghast!

If physicians are driven to quit treating injured workers, those patients will suffer – as will their employers, who will be short staffed.

Call to Action: Please call the governor's Chicago office and urge him to sign Senate Bill 904 into law!
