Be Sure You Know Illinois Law for Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect
Mandatory reporters are required to report to the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) when, in their professional capacity, they have reasonable cause to believe that a child has been abused or neglected.
Physicians and
residents are among those required to report.
But what happens if you fail to report? Would you be fined or subjected to disciplinary action, such as license suspension or revocation? Could you face a prison sentence? Depending on the circumstance, the answer is yes.
Get answers to these important questions with ISMS' medical legal guideline,
Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Requirements and Temporary Protection Custody.*
This resource will cover the penalties for failing to report, and under what circumstances physicians are immune from civil, criminal and other liability if they report child abuse or neglect, or participate in an investigation.
The medical legal guideline also includes what situations could lead to placing a child in temporary protective custody without consent.
