ISMS’ Updated Medical Cannabis Resource Reflects Current IL Law
Posted on: 11/19/2018

The Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act creates a regulatory system to protect patients with debilitating conditions, as well as their physicians, from arrest and prosecution if patients engage in the medical use of cannabis.

To help keep our members informed, ISMS’ medical legal guideline, Medical Cannabis,* has been newly updated to reflect current law. It covers:

  • Applicable medical conditions that may qualify a patient for a written certification from a physician
  • Written certification procedures and requirements for a qualifying patient
  • Immunity provisions
  • Actions that are prohibited under the pilot program
  • Sample certification documents for both adults and minors
  • A sample of the waiver form that is required to increase the adequate supply of medical cannabis for a registered patient

The updated resource also includes guidelines for the new Opioid Alternative Pilot Program, which is open to individuals age 21 and older who have received a valid written certification for a medical condition for which an opioid has been or could be prescribed by a physician.

ISMS offers another medical legal guideline on this topic, Tips for Certifying Patients for Medical Cannabis Cards.*
