  • Alert for ISMS Members: Urge Governor Rauner to Sign Important Workers’ Comp Legislation

Doctors, hospitals and other medical professionals are finding it increasingly difficult to provide care to injured workers.

The lack of enforcement of current law has allowed insurers to delay payment for care provided to injured workers for years, reducing health professionals' ability to care for these patients.

Call to Action: Please call the governor's Chicago office and urge him to sign Senate Bill 904 into law!

    Governor Bruce Rauner

This ISMS-backed legislation would help Illinois physicians return injured workers to work as soon as possible.

  • Gov. Rauner Signs ISMS Health Care Liens Initiative!

We are pleased to report that earlier this week Governor Rauner signed House Bill 4911 into law.

This is an ISMS-backed change to Illinois’ Health Care Services Lien Act. Our update codifies the ability of ambulatory surgical treatment facilities (ASTFs) to file liens.

Through ISMS Advocacy, ASTFs now stand with equal footing when seeking reimbursement for medical care provided to victims of accidents.

  • Free Clinics Must Post a Notice That They Are Immune from Liability

The Illinois Good Samaritan Act requires that free medical clinics post in a visible place a notice regarding their immunity from civil liability.

ISMS offers a free resource for members, which is formatted to be printed and posted at eligible clinics.

A doctor cannot be sued or found responsible if something goes wrong while providing medical treatment in a free clinic, unless there is willful or wanton misconduct.
