  • ISMS Urges Governor to Sign Bill to Increase Legal Age for Buying Tobacco

    The physician and medical student members of ISMS are urging Governor Rauner to sign Illinois' Tobacco 21 legislation (Senate Bill 2332), which would raise the legal age to purchase tobacco products from 18 to 21.

    Nearly all adult smokers started as kids. According to the Illinois Coalition Against Tobacco (ICAT), 5,700 young people in Illinois start smoking every year – with 95 percent of those smokers starting before the age of 21! 

    Numerous other ISMS priority bills cleared the Illinois General Assembly and have been sent to the governor for consideration.
