  • CALL TO ACTION: Your Help Needed for Important Workers’ Compensation Vote on Monday

    Unpaid workers’ compensation medical bills have reached a crisis level that could threaten the health of our workers’ compensation system and injured workers in Illinois.

    House Amendment 2 to Senate Bill 904 ensures access to quality medical care for injured workers and will be called in the House Labor Committee sometime on Monday (Memorial Day) May 28.

    Please contact your state representative and urge support of House Amendment 2 to Senate Bill 904.

  • Interstate Licensure Compacts CANNOT Be a Catalyst to Expand Scope of Practice

    ISMS and more than 80 physician organizations are urging the National Council of State Boards of Nursing to remove or substantially revise its compact.

    Here's why: Certain provisions of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Compact (APRN Compact) alterstate laws relating to the scope of practice for APRNs.

    The APRN Compact grants prescriptive authority and allows APRNs to practice independent of a supervisory or collaborative relationship with a physician, potentially overriding state laws to the contrary

  • Know the Rules for Certifying Patients Asking for Medical Cannabis

    If a patient in Illinois wants to apply for a medical cannabis ID card, a physician must certify the diagnosis of that patient’s debilitating condition or terminal illness.

    Qualifying patients receive a card that is good for three years.

    But do physicians have a choice as to whether or not they will certify a patient for medical cannabis? And if they certify one patient, must they certify other patients?
