  • The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

    SPOILER ALERT: Like the famous 1966 spaghetti western starring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach, this year's legislative session in Springfield ended with the "Good" victorious and the "Bad" defeated. 

    ISMS achieved many victories for patients and physicians. We also stood firm against proposals that would have harmed physicians and patients.

    But the summer ended on an ugly note when the governor rejected two very important bills. 

    We will need your help to override these vetoes in November during the veto session.

    We are now accepting and reviewing resolutions throughout the year – and any ISMS member may submit a resolution.  

    If you are faced with a challenge or have an idea that will improve health care, submit an ISMS resolution to introduce change! Resolutions are written proposals that initiate consideration of new ISMS policies.

  • Physicians Must Comply with New Opioid Prescribing Guidelines – or Face Possible Discipline, Fines

    Last summer, new opioid prescribing guidelines were established for physicians and incorporated into the Medical Practice Act.

    ISMS' new Issue Brief includes a quick summary of the 11 guidelines and offers other resources.

    Not complying with these new opioid prescribing guidelines may result in discipline by IDFPR and fines of up to $10,000.
