A 'Sea Change' in Springfield Could Mean Passage of Tobacco 21 Legislation
Posted on: 1/29/2019

Tobacco 21 We are pleased to share that Tobacco 21 legislation will be reintroduced in the Illinois General Assembly during the spring session. This important ISMS-backed public health legislation would raise the legal age to purchase tobacco products from 18 to 21, as nearly all adult smokers started as kids.

The bill covers all tobacco and nicotine products, including e-cigarettes.

Last year the General Assembly cleared Illinois’ Tobacco 21 legislation and the bill landed on Governor Rauner’s desk. But, regrettably, the governor vetoed the bill.

With so many new lawmakers in Illinois and a new governor, expectations are optimistic for passage into law in 2019.
