Mundelein Police Chief Receives National Award for Efforts to Combat Opioid Abuse
Earlier this week, the American Medical Association (AMA) awarded Eric J. Guenther the 2019 Dr. Nathan Davis Award for outstanding public service at the municipal level. Guenther is the chief of police for the Village of Mundelein.
The AMA award acknowledges Chief Guenther's efforts to combat opioid abuse by spearheading the creation of the "No Way Out" program.
This successful program allows law enforcement to place those who abuse drugs in substance abuse treatment facilities as an alternative to arrest and prosecution. Any individual who enters the police station seeking treatment will be assisted. The No Way Out program has grown beyond the Village of Mundelein
and is currently being used by several participating police departments in Lake County.
The Dr. Nathan Davis Award is one of the most notable forms of recognition for outstanding public service in the advancement of public health, and was presented at a banquet in Washington, D.C.
ISMS President-Elect Paul E. Pedersen, M.D., was in attendance for the awards ceremony.
