In the fight to address the opioid epidemic, the use of Illinois' powerful FREE resource – the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) – is more important than ever!

This tool can help you determine whether a patient may already be getting prescriptions for narcotics, and whether the patient has multiple prescriptions.

At the start of 2018, a new law took effect requiring all prescribers possessing an Illinois controlled substance license to register with the Illinois' Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP). The new law also requires prescribers to access the PMP before writing an initial prescription for a Schedule II narcotic.

Therefore, those licensed to prescribe controlled substances in the state of Illinois – regardless of whether they prescribe opioids – must register with the PMP

To learn more about the PMP, access our comprehensive Issue Brief on the Prescription Monitoring Program.* The resource covers what you need to know about the program itself, the legislative changes and details about how to register in the PMP.
