The 2019 spring legislative session was one of the most active sessions in memory, with Governor Pritzker successfully pursuing an aggressive legislative agenda.

While ISMS was an important stakeholder in negotiations on some elements of the larger issues, we also achieved a number of significant victories on other key pieces of legislation, including:

  • Protecting public health by increasing the smoking age to 21
  • Prohibiting smoking in cars when minors are present
  • Increasing insurance coverage for mental health and substance abuse services
  • Preventing arbitrary limits on opioid prescriptions
  • Preventing inappropriate expansions of other healthcare professionals’ scope of practice
  • Advocating against a number of onerous mandates on physician and health systems
  • Negotiating changes to a harmful bill

As you can see, your ISMS legislative team has been working incredibly hard on your behalf in Springfield!

For a comprehensive look at what ISMS accomplished, access our 2019 Update on ISMS Legislative Activity in the Illinois General Assembly.

Share this report with your colleagues to show them the value of being a member of ISMS.

To every physician member who makes ISMS’ efforts possible: THANK YOU!
