Call to Action

Legislation is under consideration on Capitol Hill to address "surprise billing" – the favored term for when an insured patient receives care at an in-network hospital or facility, and then is shocked to receive a bill for services provided there by an out-of-network physician.

Illinois physicians believe that any attempt by congressional lawmakers to fairly address this issue must include an independent dispute resolution (IDR) process in order to resolve payment disputes for non-contracted, out-of-network care and to help level the playing field between insurers and physicians.

ISMS recently joined with 103 other state and national medical organizations to urge Congress to include a fair and equitable IDR in any final bill.
