Essential State Law Governing the Practice of Medicine Extended to 2021
Posted on: 8/15/2019

Earlier this month, Governor Pritzker signed ISMS-backed Senate Bill 1221 into law, extending the sunset of the Medical Practice Act until Dec. 31, 2021.

The Illinois House and Senate once again voted unanimously to pass this legislation, as they had in 2017.

The Act is an essential state law that governs the practice of medicine in Illinois. Without it, any person – regardless of qualification – could practice medicine in Illinois without restriction or penalty.

Attempts to make detrimental changes to the Act have been common when it comes before the General Assembly for renewal. ISMS is always vigilant against harmful changes and works hard to ensure a clean renewal. We are happy to report success again this year.
