Note this important deadline:
If you want your resolution to come before the next quarterly ISMS Board meeting, which will take place in January, please
submit your resolution by Tuesday,
January 7, 2020.
This is also the
deadline for your
resolution to be considered at our
2020 Annual Meeting, taking place April 17-19, 2020, in Springfield.
Do you have an idea in mind that would address a frustrating aspect of your day-to-day work as a doctor? A solution that might restore a little joy to your practice of medicine – or help your patients in some way?
If so, write it down and let us help you turn that solution into a resolution!
A resolution is a written proposal calling for an ISMS policy change, or for ISMS to take specific actions, such as supporting legislation or introducing a resolution on the national stage via the American Medical Association.
ANY ISMS member can submit a resolution!
Writing a resolution is your most direct and effective avenue for changing healthcare policy in Illinois. Case in point:
Senate Bill 2104, which cleared the General Assembly during the fall veto session, originated
with a resolution submitted by a concerned ISMS member. The bill includes an important provision
related to automated prescription refills, and will be sent to the governor for consideration.
View all of our current resolutions and related actions on our
Resolution Tracking webpage, which is updated regularly as actions are taken and new resolutions are submitted.
Here’s how to submit a resolution:
- Send in your resolution
by email. If you aren’t sure what to do, we are here to help! You can ask us questions
here or access our Guide to Developing Resolutions for help with composing a resolution.
- Once your resolution is received, the ISMS Board Chair assigns it to an ISMS council for review/recommendation.
- Next, ISMS members are surveyed for feedback on your resolution. The ISMS council then reviews the resolution, inviting the author to provide input and develops a recommendation for the ISMS Board.
- The ISMS Board considers and acts upon the council’s recommendation.
- The Board’s action is then reviewed by ISMS membership at the ISMS Annual Meeting.
