  • Are You Certain that Your Assets Are Protected?

    Illinois physicians are practicing in a state with no cap on damages for pain and suffering and, have concerns about protecting their assets from mega-judgments that exceed their insurance coverage. 

    But there are also many other opportunities for physicians and their families to be exposed to large verdicts – beyond medical lawsuits. For example, a physician may own property on which lies "an attractive nuisance," such as a swimming pool or jungle gym. And physicians are often viewed as having "deep pockets" by a jury due to their profession.

  • Alert: Harmony Health Plan Close Out – No “NEW” Claim Disputes Accepted after October 31

    ISMS has received notice that Harmony Health Plan will not accept any new claim disputes for review or reprocessing that are received after Oct. 31, 2019. Disputes received prior to this date will be processed until resolution. 

    This deadline only applies to claims that have already beensubmitted. (As of June 2019, all claims through and including dates of service in 2018 should have been submitted.) 

    Harmony is now closing its operations.

  • Doctors Urge CMS to Address Administrative Burdens of Prior Authorization

    ISMS joined 100 national and state medical organizations to strongly urge the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to implement five major reforms related to prior authorization (PA) that would reduce administrative burdens in health care.  

    In our message we noted that while we applaud CMS for tackling the significant problems caused by PA, there is still concern that CMS is focusing solely on automation as the solution.
