SCAM ALERT: Visitors to Fake Global Map for COVID-19 Exposed to Malware; Malicious Site Skims for Passwords and Credit Card Info
Posted on: 3/17/2020

As a frightened public watches the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) around the world, many have gone in search for a real-time map showing locations of infections. Unfortunately, many have stumbled into a different kind of infection in the process.

If you find this web site – “Corona [hyphen] Virus [hyphen] Map [dot] com,” stay away from it.  It may also come up under a search as “Coronavirus COVID-10 Global Cases by Johns Hopkins CSSE.”

This is a malicious website.

Visiting this site infects the user’s device with malicious code, which has the ability to steal sensitive data – including passwords and payment card details.

Unfortunately, anyone who is searching the internet for a COVID-19 map could easily bump into this website. So be careful accessing web content.

With a global COVID-19 pandemic now in place, cyber criminals didn’t waste any time finding opportunities to take advantage of web users with their schemes.
