  • ISMS Supports Universal Use of Masks in Public to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19

When Governor Pritzker held a press event last Sunday related to state rules on mask wearing, ISMS President Robert W. Panton, MD, stood by his side to demonstrate ISMS’ support for widespread use of masks in public. Mask use is one of the most important steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“It is incredibly important that Illinoisans take mask use seriously,” said Dr. Panton. “Our state can't bring any semblance of normal back if our COVID-19 infection rates continue to increase.”

  • Postcard Disguised as Official OCR Communication Targets Your Compliance Officer
    compliance postcard

National Government Services, your Medicare Administrative Contractor for Illinois, is alerting health professionals about a new scam involving postcards.

The fraudulent mailings are disguised as official postcards coming from the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, claiming to be a notice of a mandatory Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance risk assessment.

The postcard is addressed to a healthcare organization’s HIPAA compliance officer and prompts recipients to visit a URL, make a phone call, or send an email to take immediate action.

The link directs individuals to a nongovernmental website.

This postcard is NOT an OCR communication. Please note:

    • All OCR email addresses will end in @hhs.gov
    • Addresses for OCR’s headquarters and regional offices are available on the OCR website

If you have any questions, please send an email to OCR.
