  • Legislation Capping Insulin Cost at $100 Per Month Now Law

“Even if you can’t afford it [insulin], you cannot just stop taking it,” said 13-year-old Josie Edlefson from Manlius, Illinois.1

Governor Pritzker signed a bill last month that will cap out-of-pocket insulin costs at $100 for a 30-day supply, which is expected to impact around 1.3 million people in Illinois who have diabetes.

Some patients have accumulated debt due to insulin costs and some have rationed their insulin, putting their lives and health at risk.

This cap is effective January 1, 2021, but provisions requiring various state agencies to conduct an insulin pricing report for the purpose of studying how the drug is priced and to make recommendations took effect immediately.

If you have questions, please contact ISMS Vice President of Legislative Affairs Erin O'Brien at 312-580-6488.
