ISMS Residency Program Directors Series

Residency Program Directors Series

Dear Residency Program Directors:

I am excited to announce that beginning this fall, our popular Residency Program Directors' Meeting will re-launch as the Residency Program Directors’ Series.

Our RPD event has been held in-person since 2009, and has featured national leaders in graduate medical education speaking on a wide array of topics. The feedback we received over the years was overwhelmingly positive, but even before COVID-19, many program directors indicated that scheduling conflicts made it difficult for them to attend a full-day live event. As a result, beginning in September we will be offering webinar programs throughout the year that are targeted at program directors, program coordinators and other professionals interested in medical education.

I’m pleased to invite you to participate in our first such program, "Navigating Your Residency Program Through a Crisis," to be held on September 17. CME available! ISMS members attend for free, while non-members can participate in any single program for $100.

Other topics being planned for future RPD Series webinars include successfully onboarding new trainees, resident wellness, recruiting, interviewing, licensing, and more. As an accredited provider of CME, ISMS will be applying for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM for these programs.

While these events are geared toward RPDs, we encourage anyone with an interest in graduate medical education to participate. If you haven’t attended previously, this program was developed to help Illinois RPDs navigate common challenges, hear from experts on big-picture medical education trends and develop a sense of community among residency program leaders in Illinois. I hope you’ll be able to join us.

Lastly, I would like to hear from you on a few matters.

  1. We need your feedback on future program topics and speakers. If you have heard a great speaker or need some help tackling a common challenge, please let us know!

  2. If you’re able, please forward this email or send us the name of any interested colleagues who should receive event announcements.

  3. Lastly, are you aware that you can sign up your residents and fellows for free ISMS memberships that cover the length of their training? We just need some simple information about them. To learn more, send an email to EvanRotert@isms.org.

ISMS is the only organization helping all Illinois physicians Be Heard, no matter where they are in their careers. We always want to hear from you, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to me via email any time at DrRPanton@isms.org with suggestions or questions.

Sincerely,

Robert W. Panton, MD
ISMS President
